I've been in a funk so this should be interesting. . .

• When someone say you're a "strong person" what they really mean is that you've been dealt so much crap that this next delivery shouldn't really make a difference.

Someone Elses Words

This is from my friend's friend Jeff P. I received a Facebook message from my friend stating, "this made me think of all your random thoughts in your blog. you should collect all yours for a list like this." (To my friend: This has been taken to committee for review.)

After reading the list, I immediately sent Jeff a message asking his permission to post it on my blog as I had found myself relating to a lot of these - and I had nothing else to about today. Permission was granted (keeping it in my inbox for legal purposes) and now it's time to post.

However, before I do feel the need to say that all of these aren't necessarily the most politically correct and/or may be deemed offensive by some (or not). You never know what someone may or may not deem insulting... Regardless, consider yourself warned?!

Random thoughts from people our age...

-I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

-More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

-Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

-I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink to have fun." Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and sticks when they've invented the lighter?

-Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

-That's enough, Nickelback.

-I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

-Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know" feature on Facebook people that I do know, but I deliberately choose not to be friends with?

-Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.

-There is a great need for sarcasm font.

-Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the f was going on when I first saw it.

-I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

-How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

-I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

- I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

-The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text.

- A recent study has shown that playing beer pong contributes to the spread of mono and the flu. Yeah, if you suck at it.

- Was learning cursive really necessary?

- Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say".

- I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

- Answering the same letter three times or more in a row on a Scantron test is absolutely petrifying.

- My brother's Municipal League baseball team is named the Stepdads. Seeing as none of the guys on the team are actual stepdads, I inquired about the name. He explained, "Cuz we beat you, and you hate us." Classy, bro.

- Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart", all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart".

- How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

- I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent a dick from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers!

- Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies"

-What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?

- While driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and instinctively swerved to avoid it...thanks Mario Kart.

- MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

- Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

- I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water.

-Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

- I would like to officially coin the phrase 'catching the swine flu' to be used as a way to make fun of a friend for hooking up with an overweight woman. Example: "Dave caught the swine flu last night."

-I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

- Bad decisions make good stories

-Whenever I'm Facebook stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do!

- Is it just me or do high school girls get sluttier & sluttier every year?

-If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible.

-Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem....

-You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

-Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.

-There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

-I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

- "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever.

-I hate being the one with the remote in a room full of people watching TV. There's so much pressure. 'I love this show, but will they judge me if I keep it on? I bet everyone is wishing we weren't watching this. It's only a matter of time before they all get up and leave the room. Will we still be friends after this?'

-I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Dammit!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

- I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

-When I meet a new girl, I'm terrified of mentioning something she hasn't already told me but that I have learned from some light internet stalking.

-I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.

-Why is a school zone 20 mph? That seems like the optimal cruising speed for pedophiles...

- As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.

-Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

-It should probably be called Unplanned Parenthood.

-I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

-Even if I knew your social security number, I wouldn't know what do to with it.

-Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, hitting the G-spot, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I’d bet my ass everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time...

-My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "Dad what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How the hell do I respond to that?

-It really pisses me off when I want to read a story on CNN.com and the link takes me to a video instead of text.

-I wonder if cops ever get pissed off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.

-I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

-I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lites than Kay.

-The other night I ordered takeout, and when I looked in the bag, saw they had included four sets of plastic silverware. In other words, someone at the restaurant packed my order, took a second to think about it, and then estimated that there must be at least four people eating to require such a large amount of food. Too bad I was eating by myself. There's nothing like being made to feel like a fat bastard before dinner.

Friday Freaky Fun Fact & Foto (try saying that fast seven times)

I was tagged by YarnPrincess yesterday to participate in the friday freaky fun fact & foto post. Yes, I know it's Tuesday, and almost a week later, but that's when Velma (whom I do not know) posted the original tag so that is what I'm calling it.

With that in mind, here goes nothing. . .

This bike is the first thing you see when you walk into my old company's Milwaukee office. I about died when I saw it the first time - I love motorcycles, especially Harley's.

The next day after first seeing this for the first time, my boss and I went to Harley's headquarters to visit some of our employees who were working there. While waiting for them I couldn't help but stare at the bike they had in their lobby. The nice security guy noticed this and asked if I wanted to get on it. I thanked him nicely, but declined his offer. "Are you sure," he asked. Again, I smiled and nicely declined. (My boss was near by and I was trying to be as professional as possible.) Then the security guard asked one last time. This time I quickly glanced at my boss, looked at him and said sure. OMG! It was awesome! It was my first time sitting on a motorcycle. This past June, I finally got my first ride on a motorcycle - it was even more fun than I thought it would be. I can't wait to go again!

OK, in attempt to keep the ball somewhat rolling, I tag and challenge the following bloggers to follow my Friday Freaky Fun Fact & Foto lead:

jennantonnix - I know I still owe her a package and I want her to know I haven't forgotten and I feel bad about it.

daisysmom - I know she looks at my blog often and enjoys it - which I appreciate knowing.

littledragonfly - It's been too long since we've talk. . .

sarahdluck - Long time no talk!

britnlind - Thanks for the cookie recipe!

Lots and Lots of Quotes

From time-to-time I get on quote kicks; now is one of those times . . .

Thought of the Day:

"The heart of a fool is his mouth, but the mouth of a wise man is his heart." - Benjamin Franklin

................................

Life Thoughts By Ducky:

"Wouldn't it be nice if whenever we messed up our life we could simply press 'Ctrl Alt Delete' and start all over?"

(I found this one particularly amusing because the other day some friends and I were saying that one day there will be such a thing as brain bleach that you can apply when you want to wipe an unpleasant memory out of your brain - kind of like "Men in Black" meets Mr. Clean)

................................

Aaron Freeman - Comedian - talking about Gratitude and Anger (Paraphrased):

"The nice thing about gratitude is that you can't be grateful and angry at the same time."

...............................

Knitting:

"Some women like to sit down with trouble as if it were knitting."

- Ellen Glasgow

I find the above quote intriguing though I'm not sure exactly what its meaning is. I guess I have one more thing to think about when I knit.

Jam Packed Wrap-Up

It would not be a Sunday evening without 800 things on my mind and a 1000 things to do before the work week starts . . . and of course what am I am doing? Blogging. . . Duh!

Halloween 2008 was fun. My work costume was once again my "Boo" t-shirt and this year I added a purple wig. Actually several people said I looked good with long, purple hair. Hmmm . . . I have been debating whether or not to go back to my natural hair color. Maybe I should go purple instead. (And yes, there was a non-work costume as well)

My pumpkin did not turn out too bad considering it was the first time in years I have carved a pumpkin AND that I have absolutely no artist ability what-so-ever.

Day 208: Carved Pumpkin - October 31, 2008

.....................

The HFCS Challenge began yesterday and so far so good. I actually had the opportunity to use the eating out loophole however, I did not take advantage of it, I was completely conscious of what I was eating/drinking. So much that I skipped having a Pomegranate Martini (a fave of mine) because it contained pomegranate juice which I would bet dollars to donuts had HFCS in it. Additionally I gave up partaking in a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich (another fave) even though I was not even at my own home and a sample of the Ginger Pumpkin bunt cake (which could very possibly have had sugar in it, but I did not want to bother the workers at the shop)they had out at another place I was at this weekend. Lastly, I discovered Uncle Ben's puts the forbidden additive in their flavored rice products.

It's going to be a LONG month, but I am truly committed to doing this right. My hope is that if I can cut out a lot of crap during the next 30 days I will be able to continue to do so beyond November 30th. Just another step towards improving myself (cheesy I know, but true). I was out with a friend this weekend who said they wouldn't tell if I cheated. My response to them was, "Yeah, I know, but I would know and that is what matters." We are of course the ones who have to live with the truth of our actions regardless of what we profess to others, right!?
.......................

I saw the movie "W." this weekend. Good movie. Not outstanding, but definitely insightful. I won't get into the details because I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it. What I will say is that it very interesting to see how all the events of his life more than likely influenced his first term. I say "more than likely" because I'm sure there was a lot of creative license used to make the movie a good fit for Hollywood.
......................

The Bears BARELY won. However, both TCU and the Bears won this weekend so it was a good weekend for football.
.....................

My mom and I went to a yarn shop near where she lives and she picked out sock yarn for her birthday socks. Actually, she picked out yarn for two pairs of socks. This is what she picked out:

OnLine

On Line SuperSocke 100 (Superwash)

AND

Avanti

Zitron Avanti

.....................
The baby blanket, which is now known to most as the "Huge-Ass Baby Blanket," is almost finished. Just to give you an idea of how large it is, I laid it out on my over-sized ottoman this weekend and it basically covered it. That means it's about 45"W x 30"D - all presuming I castoff where I am at the moment. I have not made a decision about how long I would like for it to be. I did transfer the blanket from the circular needles I've been using to the straight needles I originally started with. I did this mainly because when I am ready to start working on it again I will be able to drape it over my legs so I can keep warm. Yes, now that it is colder on a consistent basis, blanket knitting is once again welcomed because I can stay nice and warm in the process. Try having a blanket draped over your legs in 70/80 degree weather - not comfortable.
...................

Lastly, my Brangelina hat is a hit. I've worn it out several time and each time I do I get many compliments on it. At least half a dozen people I know have asked me to make them one. Oh, and it's comfy and warm too.

That's all for now. Until later. . . BB!

Did You Doubt The Frogs!? I Didn't!!!

This is specifically for my friend who graduated from UNLV - TCU Slaughters UNLV

Final score: TCU 44 UNLV 14

That's all! Ta! Ta!

Five W's and One H

The goal of a journalist is to answer the who, what, where, when, why and how of any story or person. (Also known as the five w's and one h.) In looking back at prior blog entries I noticed I never answered those questions about myself. Not that it's necessary however if I were on the other end it would be nice to know more about the person behind the words.

Who . . .

Am I?

Depending on how you look at this question the answer could be short and sweet or long and descriptive manner.

Short and Sweet:

I am. . .

* 30-something
* Avid Knitter (shocker!)
* Frog lover (double shocker!)
* Volunteer moderator for several online groups
* Volunteer for several not-for-profit groups

Long and Descriptive:

I try to avoid these long and descriptive "about me" sections. I never know what to say so I cut and paste my "standard" jargon.

Here is what you find in the "About Me" section on my Facebook and MySpace profiles:

"I can only think of one thing to put here that would want you to read more about me... I've been skydiving. (That seems to amaze everyone whether they have a desire to do it or not)

Now that I've gotten you to read more, I don't only skydive. I actually have a variety of hobbies that fill my "free" time. Amongst them are photography, comedy improv and, of course, knitting.

I'm thirty-something navigating through this crazy thing we call life. Just when I think I have things figured out I get thrown a curve ball and the game starts allover again.

I am fortunate to have wonderful family and friends. They definitely make the ride WAY more interesting and I don't know what I'd do without them.

I've traveled to some really cool places in- and out-side of the US. Amongst the most interesting are Israel, Ireland and England.

I believe laughter is key in life and I try to do my part by making those around me laugh . . . it's the least I can do."

Yeah. . . so that's it. I feel the "short and sweet" approach suits me better.

What. . .

Is my blog all about?

It's mostly about knitting with random stories about my day-to-day life and other things I find interesting mixed in.

Is my obsession with frogs?

Ironically I use to think real frogs were gross and disgusting. In my 5th grade Biology class we had Tadpoles in our class room. As expected, before we knew it they were full-grown frogs and it freaked the shit out of me.

Today, I think frogs are beautiful creatures though I still wouldn't hold one. As cartoons and stuff animals they are super cute. I cannot say exactly what got me hooked on collecting and associating with frogs - it just sorta happened. At the end of the day I guess it's just my thing.

Where. . .

Will you find me knitting?

Almost anywhere. The first public place I ever knit was on the Metra train going to and from work. It was strange because people would stare at me and it made me uncomfortable. Now, I have no problem with knitting in public. It's just what I do. People are surprised to hear I've knit at a bar, or two. Some of my friends think it's weird, but I don't and that is all that really matters. I must say that I have not gotten to the point that I must knit wherever I go - at least not yet. : P

When. . .

Did I start knitting?

My aunt taught me how to knit when I was in fourth grade however it did not become a regular hobby of mine until I was unemployed back in late 2006/early 2007. Not to long after taking a refresher class I started making baby blankets for those I knew expecting a child. For about the next year and a half all I made was baby blanket (I knew a lot of people expecting).

This past spring I ventured outside the boarders of blankets and explored the many other projects one can knit. I even knit something for myself as well (up to that point I would only knit for other people). I also recently started getting involved in the social aspect of this hobby. I’ve met some truly great people.

Did I start blogging?

Well if you check the archives, I started blogging about knitting back in July. However, this is not my first blog/online journal. Many, many years ago a good friend of mine introduced me to Open Journal and for a while I wrote on that. I've also used LiveJournal as well.

Why . . .

Blog?

Why not!? It's sure to get lost in cyberspace, right!?

Seriously, I started this blog as a form of entertainment - pure and simple. I did not really think anyone would take the time to read what I had to say.

How. . .

Much longer will this post go on?

Not much longer as I'm almost done.

So, that is a snap shot of me. If there is something that you are wondering that I didn't cover feel free to inquire within.

Diva Complex?

I'm not a HUGE Ringo Starr fan, but I've been to one of his "All Star Band" concerts and had a great time. I'm also a huge Beatles fan. So, when I heard this news blurb I had to do more searching on the matter to see what it was about.

Here's the initial message:

WTF? Seriously! The more I hear this story reported on I start wondering if Ringo Starr has gotten a diva complex. Who doesn't have time for their fans!? Aren't they the ones who made your career? Aren't they the ones supporting your ability to live the life you have!?

I read this on CNN.com and felt it said a lot about where he once was and apparently is now - "Starr once starred in an episode of 'The Simpsons' which showed him answering every piece of fan mail.

'They took the time to write to me, and I don't care if it takes 20 years, I'm going to answer every one of them,' Starr said on the show." (Ringo Starr Article)

I guess he no longer feels this way.

This is a more extended video on this news item:

This is all I really have to say on this matter. Back with knitting news a bit later. Until then . . . Ciao!

The First Pictures are In!

WooHoo! I just checked my e-mail and the first pictures are in from the family reunion this weekend. They are awesome! It reminded me that I have a bunch of photos to download myself on my "free" time.
